Carpet Cleaning Puts the Smell of Spring in Your Home

April 20th, 2015 · No Comments

Spring was a long time coming, but it’s finally April in the Marshalltown, Tama and State Center area of Central Iowa. The scents of the season are everywhere. It won’t be long before the friends and neighbors of ServiceMaster of Marshalltown will be cutting grass and planting gardens. It’s the perfect time to get that same springtime fresh smell in your home with a thorough professional carpet cleaning.

Besides getting rid of winter’s stale feel and bringing in the fresh smell of clean to your carpet, a clean carpet has an even larger benefit. Clean carpets last longer. That’s right; the cleaner your carpets, the longer they’ll last. An important component of a comprehensive carpet cleaning plan is having your carpets professionally cleaned twice a year, but there are some significant steps you can take to extend your carpet’s life too.

You’ve probably heard it before, but the most important thing you can do for your carpet can be summed up in one word: vacuum. Summing it up in three words it’s vacuum, vacuum, VACUUM!! Every day your carpet collects some of whatever you, your family, friends, visitors and pets track into the house. Every time you walk across the carpet those bits of sand, grit, dirt and filth are ground into the carpet fibers. The longer they are left to work their way in, the more difficult it will be to vacuum them out. As these deposits work their way into the carpet they can fray and cut the carpet fibers, in turn, shortening the life of the carpet.

If you’re wondering whether you’re vacuuming often enough, you probably aren’t. And when you do vacuum there are number points to keep in mind:

  • Move the vacuum slowly over the carpet. Vacuuming too quickly does little more than leave vacuum marks in the carpet making it look like you vacuumed. Take your time.
  • Make sure you overlap your vacuuming pattern. This will ensure you haven’t missed any areas.
  • Vacuum high traffic areas with greater care. If necessary, vacuum these areas more frequently.
  • If your vacuum has a bag, be sure to change the bag before it is completely full. A full vacuum bag reduces suction.
  • Invest in a good quality vacuum. It will not only do a better job, but will last longer and possibly even save you money in the long run.

Be sure to clean up spills as soon as possible. The longer a spill remains, the more likely it will leave a stain. When you clean a spill, always blot, never rub. Rubbing may seem like you’re cleaning more thoroughly, but you are really forcing the spill deeper into the carpet fibers. Once the initial spill is blotted up, irrigate the area with clean water and blot it dry. If signs of a spill remain, use a mild cleaning solution and rinse thoroughly with clear water until all the detergent has been removed. When you are satisfied, blot the area and allow it to dry.

When you notice vacuuming isn’t getting the results you want, or there is a stubborn spot you can’t get out, call a professional carpet cleaner who is IIRCC certified. That certification is your guarantee they have been trained and tested to strict industry standards.
